The Relationship Between America & Iran During Our Time, Editorial

Posted @ 3:16 PM on June 22, 2009 by Iran Reporters

The post is titled  "Our Time" for a few reasons. First being this is a editorial. The site will strive to bring unbiased news to it's readers. Like most news organizations writers have life experiences which become editorials. This article is partly based on what American youth witnessed growing up.
As the situation in June 2009 progressed it has become very noticeable the youth involved in the protests. Youth are the ones who make change in most cases. In the Iran 06/2009 situation we see more than the youth on the streets. Everyday people of all ages are out showing what they believe in. We would think the older protesters where the same people who pushed for change 4 years earlier.
The youth of this uprising need to understand the relationship between the US & Iran over the past 30 to 40 years. This is important to building a knowledge base for what they think they should be fighting for. More importantly American Youth need to really educate themselves before supporting any political side.
In the mid 1970's the USA was getting along pretty good with Iran. As  American students where coming out of a time of turmoil too. The 1960's and Vietnam. America's youth also started questioning the relationship with Russia. Most American kid's didn't even know Iran existed until the Sha of Iran came to the states due to illness.

The Islamic students of the same time where on the side of a very different cry for change. The Islamic Revolution is what the call for change was. We are not going to go deep into why or who started it, but what happened was a tipping point in American and Iranian relations.

On November 4, 1979 group of Islamic students and militants took over the American embassy with the support of the Iranian government. 52 Americans were held hostage for 444 days.
The hostages where finally released once Ronald Regan became president and a failed rescued attempt. The hostages where released on January 20, 1981.

This is what Americans older than 30 remember about Iran.

We highly recommend reading the Americans In Iran Hostage Crisis WIKI. LINK We also recommend Guests of the Ayatollah: The Iran Hostage Crisis: The First Battle in America's War with Militant Islam.

Everyday for 444 days Americans thoughts where with the hostages. America waited patiently for the Iranians to come to their senses. These students destroyed the lives of countless people in the name of their cause. On all sides!

In closing with advent of technology we all can jump the gun when we hear something on the Internet. It's is our personal responsibility to find out all the facts and history before getting behind a cause.  Become educated and know your topic.

Always remember we are all on the earth together, and each other is all we have.
